Bitterly angered by Uzoma's death, hundreds of Nigerians staged a protest against the killing. They gathered at Porvorim Highway with Uzoma's dead body and blocked the traffic. Then they allegedly started assaulting policemen, local people and also vandalized few shops. This made the local Indians very angry that they too became very violent, started beating up Nigerians, then brutally assaulted the Nigerian in the video above, beat him up till he bled all in the presence of policemen.

Reason for Uzoma's death, according to police, is due to a rivalry between the local Indian drug traffickers and Nigerian drug traffickers. Sources said that in a drug rivalry incident in November 2012, Uzoma had allegedly shot at one Palyekar's younger brother but the bullet hit the side of a car.
This incident triggered off the drug war between the Nigerians and the local drug peddlers.
Following the protest, Goan police arrested 53 Nigerians. Goa's Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar asked police to track down Nigerians living illegally in the former Portuguese colony so they could be deported. A minister in the state's Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party government, Dayanand Mandrekar, stirred more controversy by saying: "Nigerians are like cancer".
